Creativity and sustainability
I love creating! Wether it is a sustainable wardrobe, knitting, illustrating or natural dyeing. I also love nature, which is why I spend a lot of time thinking about the sustainability of the products that I make. You can trust that I’ve carefully considered and selected all the materials that I use to create my products, from thread to paper.
Creativity is something that really lightens my heart, and I love to create for others. Nothing compares to seeing an item that you have carefully designed and made out in the world.
Studio Nora and Sustainability
Let’s leave the planet a little bit better
I think about the sustainability of my products a lot, and I am committed to using materials that are as sustainable as possible.
Fabric-wise I prefer to use fully GOTS certified organic cottons, because cotton uses a lot of water from seed to fabric. GOTS certification not only guarantees that the earth is treated ethically, but the workers as well.
The plant that produces linen, flax, needs little water to grow, and any parts of the plants that are not used in the fabric manufacturing are used to make other products such as linseed oil. The linen that is used in some of the project bags are certified OEKO-TEX and grown and manufactured in Europe, keeping the carbon footprint as low as possible.
All the handprinted and hand-dyed fabric I use, starts out as unbleached organic cotton, which I then prepare for dying and printing with several natural materials. In this process, I try to be as conscious of the resources (heat and water) I use as possible.
The thread used to sew the various products in the story are mostly sewn with GOTS unbleached cotton thread. There are instances that I choose polyester thread over cotton is when the product will need to be able to handle lots of washing, such as baby capes. I think that it is better to use a little polyester if that means that the item will hold up a lot longer than if cotton thread is used.
My cards are printed on Biotop, which is paper made from wood-waste, and the envelopes are made from recycled paper.
All my packing materials are either re-used, or made from recycled and recyclable materials.
Please reuse or recycle!
